The primary function and responsibilities of this job: Able to support Silgan Operation sites with technical knowledge to resolve processing issues in the manufacturing of plastic containers Capable of assisting Product Development Engineers by applying plastics processing knowledge and experience to evaluate new products and make design recommendations to improve process capability on production equipment Understand the safe operation of the pilot plant or production injection, blow molding, and stretch blow molding equipment and support equipment Ability to read and understand product part drawings (bottle, perform, closure, etc) and specifications to understand what features are critical part function and performance Demonstrate advanced understanding of plastic materials and processing requirements Ability to determine when a process is in control after process adjustments are made prior to taking retained samples for evaluations. Ability to understand basic statistical concepts. Ability to use test equipment for basic bottle measurements scales, calipers, optical comparator, magna mike, top load tester, etc Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of pilot or production injection, blow molding, and stretch blow molding equipment and support equipment when break downs occur. Address minor problems and contact service support for major issues. Able to travel to Silgan Plastics sites, suppliers, and customer facilities if necessary to support projects
Job Functions: Operating Production machinery and downstream equipment. Develop process capability experiments to resolve specific process issues. Perform Production machinery job changes and process set up. improvements Support PDE on new product startups Use test equipment for basic bottle measurements scales, calipers, optical comparator, magna mike, top load tester, etcto know quality level of parts being produced Maintain area housekeeping and keep work area organized Disposal/grinding of used materials/bottles.

Requirements:
Education: At minimum High school graduate, or equivalent with the ability to demonstrated proficiency in basic reading comprehension, writing, and mathematics. Good communication skills are a must.
Secondary Education: Technical Degree or significant course work is required if prior work experience is outside the field of plastics engineering. Technical Degree can be two year program in plastics processing if adequate work experience existing or 4 year degree in plastics packaging or related engineering.
Prior Work Experience: If not degreed in plastics engineering or other pertinent technical degree, prior technical/mechanical work environment should include a minimum of 10 years hands on plastics processing experience -machine operation and setup or hands on maintenance --mechanical, electrical, or hydraulics, or plastics mold design and development.
Attributes: Dependable, safety minded, analytical, creative, detail-oriented, works well independently, capable of clearly expressing thoughts and ideas to others, enjoy a position with high travel requirements
Skills: Good with numbers, good analytical problem solving skills, well organized, good written and verbal communication skills, able to set priorities and manage multiple projects, work well under pressure and still achieve deadlines without sacrificing quality of work. PET 2 Step working knowledge , required.
