Clearwire, founded in October 2003 by telecom pioneer Craig O. McCaw, is a provider of simple, fast, portable and reliable wireless high-speed Internet service. Clearwire customers connect to the Internet using licensed spectrum, thus eliminating the confines of traditional cable or phone lines.
Headquartered in Kirkland, Wash., the company launched its first market in August 2004 and now offers service in 16 states across the U.S. as well as in Europe.
On November 30, 2008, Clearwire Corporation and Sprint Nextel Corporation combined their respective next-generation wireless broadband businesses to form a new wireless communications company to expedite the deployment of the first nationwide mobile WiMAX network. This new company retained the name Clearwire.
In conjunction with this transaction, Intel Corporation (through Intel Capital); Google Inc.; Comcast Corporation; Time Warner Cable Inc; and Bright House Networks collectively invested $3.2 billion into Clearwire.
Technology Development Engineer:
As a Technology Development Engineer, member of the Core Network Development team under the Technology Development organization, the individual will play a key role in: Development of Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) architecture and design. Development of the overall architecture, as well as market-specific detailed designs for the Clearwire WiMAX Core Network, and Assess and identify key incremental enhancements to the Clearwire WiMAX core network.
The individual is expected to posses extensive technical knowledge about the core network related aspects of various next generation wireless access technologies. The position will also involve participation in proposals for, and evaluations of, new/improved technology features, and work with vendors to plan and prioritize their implementation as well as supporting RFI/RFP activities.
In addition, the individual will provide group-wide support to ongoing network development projects. Notably, the individual will participate in (possibly lead) complex, cross-functional core network technology development, architecture formulation, and network design related projects, including analysis and evaluation of various technology/architecture/design alternatives, network architecture and design documentation, high-level functional requirements, vendor development roadmap coordination, and high-level lab test architectures and associated requirements. The person is expected to be able to manage complex cross-functional projects.
Requirements:
Individual is expected to have minimum of 7 years of experience in Telecommunications/wireless technology with strong technical skills in Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA), IP Network (IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, IPSec, Mobile IP, QoS), RADIUS etc. The candidate must have expertise in architecting the core network to support 3G or 4G wireless technologies. Exposure to and a strong knowledge of, designing ISP networks, implementing QoS in IP networks, capacity planning and network reliability concepts.
A working understanding of internet functional components such as DNS, DHCP, and familiarity with a variety of next generation IP/mobile applications such as VoIP are highly desired. Exposure to hands on working on Unix systems and various test tools is also required.
The Individual must possess very good oral and written communication and project management and presentation skills.
A BS/BA in a technical field or equivalent work experience is required. An Advanced degree in Engineering or Business is desired.
