Editor and Director of Media Relations

Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development and food security to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil society. ACDI/VOCA currently has approximately 90 projects in 40 countries and total revenues of $140 million.
We are seeking a D.C.-based Editor and Director of Media Relations to help manage ACDI/VOCA’s image through strategic communications. The most important responsibility is editing, and to a lesser extent writing, a variety of informational, outreach and internal technical materials, including proposals, reports, manuals, articles, etc.
The incumbent will also serve as a media specialist, developing and disseminating press releases, position statements and articles; strategizing and executing media placements in international, trade and other media; and cultivating staff skills in media outreach and crisis communication. He or she will travel to expand knowledge of ACDI/VOCA’s activities, cover events and stories, and deliver communications services and training.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field as well as a minimum of five years’ experience in international development communications are required. Experience with PRNewswire or similar media monitoring services is required. Excellent writing and editing skills are required. Mastery of writing for search engine optimization and experience with MS Office are required. Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign and Dreamweaver), social media and internal knowledge management systems are desirable. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in oral and written communications and organizational and interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to work independently as well as a part of high-performance team, handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines and track and report on progress.
